Brandon Sanderson Writing Class Lectures

Hey folks!  I’m still around, I swear. Haven’t updated the ol’ blog in a while, but I’m happily pecking away at my laptop and working on my story, so I’ll forgive myself for that. ;)

I wanted to share something with you that I found yesterday while doing some reading about the craft of writing. I seriously hit a gold mine with this one.

Someone has graciously videotaped and posted online all of the lectures from one of Brandon Sanderson’s creative writing classes. If you’re not sure who that is, go here: Brandon Sanderson: The Official Site. In a nutshell, he’s a pretty badass fantasy author. He’s also the writer who stepped up to complete The Wheel of Time after Robert Jordan passed away. So he knows his stuff. The lectures you’ll find in the link below are from an entire semester of his 2012 creative writing class at Brigham Young University in Utah. I’m tearing through this stuff, bouncing on the edge of my seat, and I’ll be following along as well with the “assignments.” Go here ~ Brandon Sanderson 2012 Lectures ~ and bask in the awesome goodness. So many thanks to those who have made this available to us on the Internets.

Also found a podcast site that has some really cool interviews with different authors, getting to know them and their writing styles, as well as giving tips and pointers to help your own writing career – The First Million Words.

Turns out I’ve been spending so much time on world building and planning and outlining that I’ve forgotten to, you know, write. So I’m going to set aside the main project and just write something. From scratch. Feeling a little stagnant, so gotta get my creative juices flowing again.

Enjoy! =)
